Sheridan Arkansas 2045 total miles
We got a late start today. Both of us were tired from the days before and lack of sleep. Not to mention my c pap machine took a crap Thursday night so sleep is a little hard to come by. It was raining when I got up at 5 and kept up until around 9. That worked just fine for us so we could have a slow get going. Slid across the hiway for a breakfast in the remote world of red neck heaven. Thank god I had my camo suspenders on so I was safe. I told kiwi he was on his own as I did not have enough bullets to defend him. Also made the point that I thought I could slide in to a southern drawl pretty easy and his kiwi accent was not going to pass muster. We watched humanity come and go with little regard for our staring ways. I was just too damn good for people watching. Our more base comments are unprintable on a family blog but I think it might have had to do with a lack of teeth. We finally got going around 10:30. Didn't even make it to the other end of town before my greasy breakfast was knocking on the door if you catch my drift. Pit stop. While I was taking care of business a guy came up to talk to kiwi about the bikes. At first he seemed pretty knowledgeable about the era but then started in on a rant about the FBI and how we were going to be under surveillance from the time we set foot in dc. He also informed kiwi that we would be no doubt injected with an incurable disease that only the secret service had the cure for. I caught the last part as kiwi was starting his bike, rolling his eyes and damn near doing a wheely toward the road. Some times you feel like a nut and some times you don't. We rolled on down the road in fits and starts trying to find rubber gloves for the rain and then fruit for kiwi to munch on during breaks. As an aside we have unanimously determined that mike has a disease we call MADD(motorcycle attention deficit disorder). Wen he travels down the road he looks at everything but the road signs. Consequently he is only allowed to lead when there are no more turns for the day. Seems to be working fine for both of us. Also gives me relief from worrying when he rides with no hands and takes pics and video. One of our last stops before getting serious about riding was at the walmart in poteau Oklahoma. It was damn near Johnny Carson like for people watching. My favorite was a fellow strutting down the aisle like he was the cock of the walk. I can see why as he had on a red, white, yellow and brown plaid shirt that went exceptionally well with his camo knee length shorts only to be out done by the hunting boots that completed the ensemble. Oh did I forget to mention the John Deere hat? Watch out girls- Daryl and his brother Daryl are sportin' tonight. We decided to get serious and ran hard for a couple of hours. Once we got on 270 heading for pine bluff we were going through the ouawitchie national forest. The day became very serene and majestic with the tall pines and gentle rolling hills. The sweeping curves ran by one after the other with no one in sight. The rain stayed away since we had stopped to put on our rain gear. Nice strategy heh? As we rolled down the highway we rounded a corner and smelled a BBQ smoker. Cram the binders baby this place is COOL! It was called burl' BBQ and looked like it had been there forever. We couldn't wait to get inside and see what kind of a gem we had found. It was truly awesome. Te place was decorated with all manner of antique tools and Indian war artifacts. The walls were plastered with anything and everything you could imagine that some one might have used to fight or build a house 200 years ago. One of the more modern pieces was a certificate of prostitution for the place. It had serial number 4 so not sure where the other 3 were. The baby back ribs were to die for. Each plate had 6 ribs, baked beans and tater salad. Snce it was 2:30 we called this dunch or a combination of dinner and lunch. There was so much meat on my ribs I could not finish all of them. Kiwi helped me out so nothing went to waste. As we were leaving we checked out the home made fudge and cinnamon rolls as big as dinner plates. No shit! You could feed a family of 5 with one of those suckers. God how I wanted one. As where do you put it on your bike? Did not give in to the dark side. Kiwi was having trouble with a sticky throttle cable so we had been on the look out for a scooter shop. Finally found one that was open and stopped in for a chat. They gave us the wrenches we needed and kiwi took the cable apart to lube it. Worked good. I volunteered some of dirty gurl's grease but he figured synthetic oil was more to his liking. After we were dome we went I to clean up and started talking to the tool guy. H had served in the marines as a tank mechanic and had spent time at 29 palms which is the marine base by pal springs so we had some chit chat about the base. He got the owner so he could see the bikes since he likes old bikes. He had hosted the cannonball people on their teen bikes in 2010. He loved the bikes so we had fun yakking about them. Kiwi pounded the siren when we left and you could see the wide grins on their faces. One other little nugget we got at the shop was do NOT stop in pine bluff. Who knew? Guess the place is over run with gang bangers and druggies so not our scene. We decided to stay in Sheridan which is a cute little Arkansas town of 3500 people. We damn near made our budget of $50 for a room. Kiwi said it came to $50.06. As we were heading to our room a huge black wasp headed straight for me on a collision course. He lost the collision but left his mark as he put his stinger deep in to the right side of my neck. Damn that hurt. Another day tomorrow as we head for tupelo mississippi.
